What is Health?

According to WHO 'Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, not merely absence of disease or infirmity.' This definition of health is nearly complete but seems misleading to some extent. This definition is based on allopathic definition of the word 'disease' to some extent and it seems it is also based on holistic viewpoint to some extent also. That is, this definition is based partly on truth and partly on some confusion. Because of that confusion WHO could not present any prescription for 'a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing'. It is true that health is 'a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing' and it is also equally true that 'health is absence of all kinds of diseases and infirmities'. All kinds of physical, mental and social shortcomings should be understood as diseases and infirmities. Social and political systems which disturb the physical health of the people should be understood as 'social disease'. Complete physical health is impossible in mass scale without complete social health. So it is necessary to cure social disease for complete physical health. But WHO has no any prescription for curing social disease. That is why we want to call the WHO to attain 'a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing' it is necessary to broaden viewpoint of the WHO in accordance with the truth. That is, WHO should adopt the holistic viewpoint and should have prescription for social disease. When we use holistic viewpoint it would be clear to us that health is related to three factors? diet, activities and thinking. From birth to death life of a human being remains within the boundary of diet, activities and thinking. All the time either a man takes diet or does any other activities, physical or mental. We call 'activities' for physical activities and 'thinking' for mental activities. Hence the life of human beings is bound to remain within the circle of diet, activities and thinking. Then it is obvious that if diet, activities and thinking of human being remain in accordance with laws of health human being remain healthy and if not human being become diseased. NLG's one of the main activities is health checking and counseling for those who assume themselves healthy. This activity is performed through NIROGDHAM. (See Nirogdham)
All those things are 'diet' which we ingest from mouth to abdomen. Purpose of diet is to maintain the body. When we neglect the purpose of the diet then health problems begin to arise because of food we ingest from mouth. That is why we should follow the body's hints. Body is the standard for verifying the truth about the diet. There is no any importance of our like and dislike concerning the food items. Food items should be suitable for our body and body's function. If any food item disturbs normal functioning of the body then we should understand that is unsuitable to the body and improper. So when deciding which is proper and which is improper food item it would be improper to make our own private opinion. Body is the universal standard for deciding the properness and improperness of the diet. Diet should be proper in terms of quality, quantity, interval and taking method. For all these we should recognize the body as a universal standard. This is the truth. In contrary to this truth if we assume our like and dislike, tradition and prevailing fashion as a standard it is certain to arise various kinds of health problems. So the proper diet is that which maintains normal functioning of the body.
All conscious efforts which we do through using various organs of the body are 'activities'. As in the case of diet same is true in relation to health and activities. To maintain body's function in normal condition our conscious efforts should be proper. To decide what is proper and what is improper we should recognize the body as a universal standard in this case also. Body is objective reality, the truth, so the body never lies to us. In accordance with this truth it is clear that which activity generates comfort to the body is proper and discomfort to the body is improper. In this case also we should not have to make any private opinion or to make any private opinion would be a blunder mistake
Our activity which we do, using our brain or mind is 'thinking'. The 'thinking' process is the most important activity we do. According to our thinking we take diet and do various kinds of activities. So the thinking is the guide to 'diet' and 'activities'. As in the case of 'diet' and 'activities' it should be clear to us that proper thinking is advantageous to the health and improper thinking is injurious to the health. To verify which thinking is proper and which is improper the sole standard is the body itself as in the case of previous two. So we don't have to create any private thinking, the body itself tells us what to think and how to think. Remaining free from 'private thinking' we can heed the body?s tone. To heed the body?s tone is proper thinking pattern.
Basically there are two ways of thinking
1. to think according to body's tone and
2. to think according to so-called mind's tone, that is, to think according to liking and disliking; and to according to belief. If we think according to ourliking and disliking; and according to belief then the body falls on danger of disease and sorrow. So to remain healthy and happy we should follow the body's tone and remain free from mind's tone. To remain free from mind's tone and to heed the body's tone is the real independent-ness.
