Nowadays the term 'Meditation' is used worldwide but it seems that people are not aware about the real meaning of the 'Meditation'. Almost all of the prevailing 'Meditation' methods in the world are not the 'Meditation' in real sense. Almost all of those are only 'Concentration Course'. Those Concentration Courses are done on concentrating on one thing or other or imagining on one thing or other or chanting various words. According to the Patanjali Yoga Sutra concentration courses can be done from on nuclear to the space, that is, we can create innumerable numbers of Concentration Courses. But the Concentration Courses automatically can't purify the mind; they only can calm down the mind and the body temporarily if the concentration courses are suitable for the person. If concentration course is unsuitable the person becomes excited or depressed or faint. So to do concentration course in the name of 'Meditation' is not only misleading but also risky.
Purpose of Meditation is self realization. Self realization can't be materialized without rational thinking. So it should be clear to us that the Real Meditation is no other than the process to think rationally. Thinking rationally we would realize our 'self' as an Independent Human Being. After realization of our 'self' it would be common practice for us to remain on our original form, that is, the health, happiness and independent-ness. Contrary to the Meditation, the Concentration Course makes us dependent on one thing or other even for the temporary relaxation of the body and mind.
When we become tired it is advantageous to do relaxation through concentration course becoming clear about the purpose of the concentration course. But if we do concentration course assuming as the Meditation we would be as a crow within fog. As the crow within fog becomes confused about direction we also become confused about the purpose of life assuming the concentration course as the Meditation. So we should understand obviously the difference between the Meditation and Concentration. Concentrating on one thing or other, imagining in one way or other and chanting words in one way or other is the Concentration Course and to think rationally is the Meditation. When a person realize the 'own self' through Meditation s/he always remains on Meditative State, that is, original state. This is the magic of the Meditation, magic of the Rational Thinking Process and magic of returning to the Common Sense.
